The Hon John Howard OM AC

The Inaugural NSW Young Liberal President needs no introduction. After joining the Liberal Party in 1957 and becoming NSW YL President in 1962, Member for Bennelong in 1974, then as a Minister and eventually as Prime Minister of Australia in 1996, Mr Howard steered the nation through nearly twelve years of economic reform, strong growth, and global influence, becoming Australia’s second-longest-serving Prime Minister and a defining figure of our nation.

The Hon Marise Payne

A leader of the movement from 1987 to 1988, former Senator the Hon Marise Payne was the 18th President of the NSW Young Liberals. She went on to become the longest serving female senator in Australia’s history, serving in Liberal Governments holding a range of portfolios, including Human Services, Defence, Foreign Affairs, and Women.

The Hon Gladys Berejiklian

‘The woman who saved Australia’ joined the NSW Young Liberals in 1993 and served as the 26th President from 1996 to 1997. It was only six years later that Gladys was elected to Parliament as the Member for Willoughby in 2003, and went on to serve as a minister in the O’Farrell and Baird Governments before becoming Leader of the NSW Liberals and the first woman in NSW history to be elected Premier in her own right.

Tony Chappel

A respected public servant with decades of experience across both the public and private sectors, the 29th NSW Young Liberal President has served since 2022 as Chief Executive Officer of the NSW Environmental Protection Agency. Re-established by the O’Farrell Liberal Government in 2012, the EPA continues to safeguard the health of our state’s natural environment.
